The owner of this house was experiencing claustrophobia with 3 teenage kids – more space was desperately needed. The clients were very ecology minded and as such we wanted to be as Green as possible. Using natural materials was a priority and so was making everything energy efficient. Another big goal was to match the existing house in style. We then proceeded to build them a 2 story addition that ties into the main structure that looks like it was always there. We had Jeld-Wen custom make matching casement windows so that there was continuity between the addition and the existing home. Cedar shake siding was installed to match the original siding. On the inside we added 2 bedrooms, a laundry room, a study area for the kids and a large family room where everyone could hang out and play. Marble tile in the foyer and reclaimed barn board hardwood floors with tung oil finish everywhere else really added a beautiful touch. Some of the energy features of the house are spray foam insulation throughout, on demand hot water heater, in floor heating system in the bathroom, and Mitsubishi split heating and air conditioning units.
