Portfolio Garage In The Plains

New Project just completed!

When an old client of ours decided he needed more storage space he called Craftsman Construction. The client wanted a quaint little garage that was large on details. The garage had to have space for the client’s photography hobby, a bathroom for the grounds keeper, and a utility room to house a new electrical service to handle any future expansion. The area in question where the garage was to be built was quite tight. There was a very large tree that the client didn’t want damaged and a power pole that serviced the existing house. Even though the power pole was eventually going to come down, it had to stay in place until the last minute so as not to disturb the client’s main house. The county soil report said that this area had poor soil, so we had our soil engineer design a footing and foundation that could resist the expansive soils in this area. With careful digging so as not to damage the clients tree, a proper footing and foundation was set in place. Next came the framing of the walls. All 2 x 6 construction was utilized with Advantech sheathing (50 year warranty on this product). We then hand framed the roof with  2 x 12  yellow pine rafters and king post. This was a very nice effect and looked like an old barn. We proceeded to install James Hardi Fiber Cement Siding (50 year warranty). We then topped off the building with a standing seam pre-finished metal roof (good for 50 years). All exterior trim was by Azek, a state of the art exterior trim board that carries a 25 year warranty. Five JELD-WEN windows bring in plenty of light, and two high quality coachman style garage doors complete the exterior. On the inside we covered all walls with ½” plywood to give the home owner lots of versatility in the eventual use of space. All electrical was run in metal conduit for a thoroughly industrial look that the client was after. To finish the project, a 350 foot trench was dug from the street and all the utilities were moved underground. The old power pole was removed and the landscaper finished the project. As you can see from the pictures this garage turned out great!!!!!
